6 Teens Attack, Injure Cops At Boston Shopping Center: Police

A group of boys assaulted and threw rocks at Boston police and their cars, shattering windows and injuring several officers, officials say.

Six teenage boys were arrested in South Boston around 7 p.m. on Monday, July 31, after they assaulted several police officers, according to the Boston Police Department

Police received several 911 calls about a group of boys loitering and disrupting businesses around South Bay Mall and 24 District Avenue earlier that day. They removed the teens. 

Officers saw the same group of teenagers in the area later that day and attempted to remove them again, but the boys began throwing rocks and attacking them, authorities said. 

As officers handcuffed one of the boys, another kicked a police radio across the ground. They also threw rocks.  

Multiple officers were injured in the incident, and several police cars had their windows busted, authorities said. Boston paramedics treated police for non-life-threatening injuries. 

The six teenagers were arrested and charged with: 

14-year-old from Dorchester:

  • Assault and battery on a police officer
  • Disorderly conduct 
  • Resisting arrest

15-year-old from Dorchester:

  • Receiving stolen property
  • Affray
  • Disorderly conduct 
  • Resisting arrest

16-year-old from the South End:

  • Assault and battery on a police officer
  • Disorderly conduct 
  • Resisting arrest

16-year-old from the South End:

  • Disorderly conduct 
  • Resisting arrest

15-year-old from the South End:

  • Disorderly conduct 
  • Resisting arrest

16-year-old from Roxbury:

  • Disorderly conduct 
  • Resisting arrest

All six teenagers were released to a parent or guardian. They are expected to be arraigned in Boston Juvenile District Court later.
